ICSA Sloop Conditions

SCHEDULING:

This event shall ordinarily be scheduled by the assigned Conference for Fall week-end #12 on the Intersectional calendar. This event shall be three(3) days in length, and whenever possible, shall start on a Friday. The morning of the first day shall be used for a Skippers' Meeting and practice. The first race of the event shall be scheduled for not later than 12 noon of the first day. No race shall be started after 3:00 p.m. on the last day.

ENTRANTS:

Each Regular Member Conference shall receive one berth. One additional berth each shall be alloted to Conferences in order of size until a total of ten berths is reached.

ELIGIBILITY:

(Refer to the General Conditions for National Intercollegiate Championships.)

PARTICIPANTS:

Each team shall consist of three(3) or four(4) persons, plus one(l) substitute. The number of required team members shall be determined by the Board of Directors when it gives final approval to the host Conference (see General Conditions for National Intercollegiate Championships.)

SUBSTITUTION:

There shall be no limitation on substitutions between races, except for the limit on the number of participants above. The substitution of positions within a boat during a race shall be permitted.

BOATS:

The event shall be sailed in sloops of not less than 19 feet, nor more than 30 feet, in length. The boats may have a fixed keel, moveable keel or centerboard. Each ot the boats shall be rigged with a spinnaker for the event.

REGATTA FORMAT:

The event shall be sailed, where practical, using a round-robin rotation as prescribed in PR 22(b). If a round-robin is not possible, a drawing for boats shall be held at least twice during the event. The event shall be sailed using only one division.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

The two-turn penalty shall be deleted for this event and the Percentage Alternative Penalty shall be used (see ICSA Procedural Rule 31(b)).

The use of special "Class Rules" is discouraged, except when necessary to prevent damage to the boats.

The awarding of compensation for minor breakdowns for which "jury rigged" or substitute equipment can be used is discouraged.

The starting sequence shall be that specified in RRS 26.

TROPHIES:

The winning team's names and college shall be engraved on the Cornelius Shields, Sr. Trophy.

Keeper trophies, provided by ICSA, shall be awarded to the members of the top three teams.
