The number of berths per Confernce shall be calculated using the following formula, rounding off the answer to the nearest whole number (.5 shall be rounded up):

Should the application of the formula result in the awarding of more than 14 berths, the President shall reallocate the berths. In the event of reallocation, each Regular Member Conference shall receive at least one berth. However, no Conference may receive more than three (3) berths.

(Refer to the General Conditions for National Intercollegiate Championships).

Regatta Format:

Each team shall sail three boats in each race.

The eligible teams shall be seeded* into two groups of seven. A “Qualification” round robin of each group of seven shall be sailed. The overall records for the teams in these rounds will not be carried forward. However, records from matches that will be duplicated in the first “Winner’s” or the “Consolation” round shall carryover for those duplicated races, and those duplicated races shall not be sailed. The top four teams of the seven teams in each group shall qualify for the “Winner’s” double round robin of eight teams. The remaining six teams shall sail in a “Consolation” single round robin.

The top four teams of the “Winner’s” round robin shall sail a single “final four” round robin to determine the overall champion of the event and the winner of the Walter C. Wood Trophy.

  • Seedings will be reviewed each year after the number of berths for each Conference has been determined.
