Timmes Tune-Up
Northwestern University
November 11th & 12th, 2006

Saturday dawned cold and grey, with temperatures in the 40s, enormous waves and winds from the northwest from 20 to 30 knots. Racing was postponed until noon, when the race committee and NU decided to cancel racing completely due to unremitting conditions. Sailors instead enjoyed freshly cooked omelets and home-made chili and huddled together for warmth.

Sunday heralded winds that started out around 4 knots and built up to over 15 knots. The race committee ran windward-leeward races all morning. Six races were sailed before wind conditions increased to a point where racing was called. The last two A races did not count toward the results because the set was unable to be completed. Two protests were filed. NU handed out awards to the top three schools and the three lowest-score individual skippers and crews. Thanks to all the teams who participated and made this a fun weekend, despite the sometimes frustrating and uncooperative weather. Northwestern looks forward to seeing all of you next spring!

ICSA Sloop Nationals
College of Charleston
November 17-18, 2006

Friday: Races started in an 8-10 knot westerly breeze with a flood tide. The breeze lightened to 5-8 knots by the end of the first race. All races were windward leeward with five legs. Temperature was 65 degrees with sunny skies. The fourth race was abandoned due to a lack of wind and a one tack beat. Three races with five legs were completed. One 20% penalty was taken by Coast Guard. No protests and no breakdowns.

Saturday: Seven races were sailed today in a 4-8 knot northwesterly breeze. The races were five leg windward leeward courses. Two protests were filled resulting in two DSQ's.

One yellow flag was taken in race ten.

2006 TIMME ANGSTEN MEMORIAL REGATTA
CHICAGO YACHT CLUB
NOVEMBER 24-26, 2006

The final day of racing was very similar to the previous two. Air temps remained high with winds only slightly diminished from Day 2. For most of day the wind was out of the SSW but, just in time for the final B set, it backed 45 degrees to the SE requiring the RC to reset the course. A full rotation was completed with 6 more WL races added to each division’s scores. There were no protests, requests for redress or breakdowns filed on the final day of the event. Boston College was once again crowned Angsten Champion. This marks their fifth consecutive year as champions going back to 2002. This is second only to Coast Guard who won seven consecutive 'Timmes' from 1959-1965. Regatta photos can be found at http://www.boatingshots.com and http://www.gtsphotos.com
