Tod Reynolds Elected Commodore for 2009
I am very excited to serve as Commodore of the MCSA after being as Race Chair last year. As junior at Northwestern University I have served as captain of NUST for three years and have been able to attend Single Handed and Sloop nationals along with a myriad of other dingy events. Outside of college sailing I enjoy racing Finns and E-scows with my dad and brother. I hope to one day get my act together and do an Olympic campaign in the Finn. Off the water I am an electrical engineering major concentrating on control systems and robotics and am currently on a co-op with an entertainment company in California responsible for designing a new Warner Bros. theme park in Abu Dhabi. Finally, as a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, I am the founder and Co-Chair of GreekBuild. A partnership between all 39 fraternities and sororities at Northwestern and Habitat for Humanity. As commodore I hope to keep the MCSA running smoothly, streamline any process's that we can, and prepare the district for hosting Spring Nationals in 2010.

February 21, 2009
We had a slow start getting things going due to having to change the rotations around, and it was very difficult to get a course set. The wind started around 10 knots from the SE, but quickly died down and switched to the south. The wind never settled in leaving very puffy and shifty conditions. The race committee and all teams in attendance opted to complete as many races as possible on Saturday, as many teams had 10+ hour drives on Sunday, and so that everyone could enjoy the parades.
There were three protests, all in B-fleet, with each one resulting in a team getting DSQ'd from the race. Notre Dame was issued redress in race 3A, as the jib halyard jumped the track and they were without a jib.
Thank you to our Race Committee, Peter Hopkins and Philip Hubbell. They did a great job running races given the tricky conditions.

I am a sophomore taking a business degree at Miami University - Oxford. I am very active with the Miami University Sailing Team and currently serve as the equipment manager. I grew up sailing in Detroit, Michigan on Lake St. Clair and the Detroit River. I participated in junior sailing for many years at the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club, however I was raised at Bayview Yacht Club in Detroit. I am actively involved with the C&C 35-1 Association of Detroit and have raced my family's C&C 35-1, ";Shamrock" for most of my life. First with my father, who has since retired from racing and now my sister and I race the boat. I have participated in eight Port Huron to Mackinac races on board C&C 35s. I am also the proud owner of a Crescent Sloop which is based out of the Detroit Sail Club. I look forward to serving you as your Vice Commodore, thank you so much for the opportunity.

Saturday: Lack of wind forced a postponement ashore until a light SE breeze filled in around 11 am. The breeze held from the SE at 5-8 knots for the remainder of the day. Changing current conditions throughout the day made for some interesting racing. 6 races were completed in each division. 1 protest was filed resulting in 1 DSQ.
Sunday: Racing started in a SW wind at 10-15 Knots the wind increased to 20-25 knots and shifted NW by the end of the day. A low tide around 12:30 and some shifty conditions made for some great racing. All courses were Gold Cups. No protests or break downs were filed. Thanks to all of the cougars who helped run the event and congrats to the Tritons on the victory.

Samuel Sam Todd Race Chairman
I am a freshman at Purdue University. I started sailing at an early age with my family in northern Michigan with my family during the summer. I started getting into racing during high school, something different, after not wanting to come to school early for soccer. I had a great time sailing around the Midwest and meeting lots of sailors. I am excited to continue my experiences here in the MCSA and am excited to be Race Chair and hope that all the regattas can go smoothly.

I'm a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin majoring in Industrial Engineering. Growing up in Milwaukee, there were always ample sailing opportunities, but I only started sailing about two years before college. Although I always had the intention of sailing on the University of Wisconsin team, I still find it somewhat surprising how well this crazy plan of mine has worked out. I have spent the past year serving as my team's regatta coordinator and am excited to take on an MCSA board position. As the special interests representative, I plan to promote and ensure that the MCSA is prepared for 2010 Nationals. I also hope to increase the involvement in women's sailing.
Kelsey Dubois - Equipment Information Coordinator
I am a sophomore at the University of Michigan majoring in Naval-Architecture and Marine Engineering. I come from Grosse Ile, Michigan. I started sailing at the age of 8 and began racing optis when I was 10. Since then, I have raced FJs and 420s, both for my yacht club's junior team and my high school team. I joined the Michigan sailing team as a freshman. I am looking forward to promoting Midwest sailing.

Conference Commissioner - Jenn Hockema
I am beginning my 2nd term as the Conference Commissioner. During my first term I enjoyed working with all 3 MCSA boards, the membership, and the ICSA board. I'm excited for our conference to be hosting Nationals at the University of Wisconsin in 2010. Wisconsin will do a great job, and the willingness of our sailors and alumni to help with the event will make it a success. I also hope to see a 2nd team qualify for the final round of Nationals. I am proud to be a MCSA alumnus, and am excited to be a part of our conference's continued improvement.
In college I attended and sailed at Purdue University which is where I began racing. I enjoyed being a part of Purdue's Team both on and off the water.
I currently live in Montague, Michigan, and am a Program Coordinator for the American Youth Foundation. I design and implement programs with schools that focus on concepts of best self and positive community. I look forward to my 2nd term serving the MCSA and invite anyone to contact me with comments or questions. If you are an alumni looking to reconnect with the MCSA, I would be happy to find a way to get you involved again.
