Boat: FJ
Saturday Morning opened with sunny skies and 10 knots of breeze. Unfortunately as soon as the boats got on the water the wind began to build eventually reaching unsafe speeds at which time boats were sent back to shore. We spent the better part of the morning we were hit by scattered thunderstorms as the wind continued to build, after lunch do to high winds and more thunderstorms racing was abandoned for the day at 2:00pm. Sunday morning was much the opposite wind did not fill until after 10am. Once it did we had beautiful 8-10 knots of breeze out of the south, which made for one of the least shifty regattas in recent memory. We were able to complete 4 races in each division before the time limit. Congratulations to Bowling Green for the Win and to Tomas McRitchie? in his last MCSA regatta. Thank you to everyone who helped made this regatta possible

Big 10 Team Race
University of Michigan
April 3-4 2010
Boat: 420
Saturday: The day started out with light and shifty wind. As the day progressed gusts continued to increase. After unexpected gusts capsized two boats for an extended period of time racing was postponed for an hour and a half for the sailors to warm up. After more consistent wind was being recorded sailors were sent back to the water, three more races were sailed. Before the start of the last race in rotation A, a windstorm hit. Racing was called off for the day due to extreme winds (50mph gusts).
Sunday:
The morning began with consistent wind from the south to south east. The first rotation was finished and a second was completed within the time limit. Three protests were filed. One was heard resulting in a DSQ.
Thank you to all of the sailors who helped rescue boats and make sure all sailors and boats were accounted for during Saturdays wind storm!

The Ted Ferrarone at RWU
Team Race Intersectional
April 3-4 2010
Saturday racing was good all day with winds from 6 to 15 mph. Sunday saw a light morning dying from 5 to 3ish to 0 for an hour and slowly filling in at 4 to 8 mph. Two round robins were sailed with two re-sails. In the interest of time, there was a 5th v. 6th sail off and a final four. Brown beat Dartmouth in the tie breaker to race for 5th but Tufts would go on to beat the Bears in the one race sail off. Before that RWU won sail off to break the tie with Tufts to clinch the last spot in the final four. BU had a firm grip on the Ted Ferrarone Trophy all weekend and wrapped it up by going undefeated in the final four. All courses were sailed on a digital N (Not the college N). A big thanks goes out to all the RWU sailors who gave up their Easter weekend to help run a great event: Emerald Epke, George Saunders, Megan Place, Meg Carlson, Conor Crowe, Max and Cam Pimentel.

We had a great day of sailing Saturday, with winds at 10 knots and puffs in the high teens.
Unforunately, Sunday we had no wind and could not sail. It was a great regatta and we would like to thank all of the volunteers, competitors, and all the teams that allowed us use of their boats.

April 10-11, 2010
Boat: 420
Sunshine prevailed throughout the weekend, bringing a balmy 65 degrees on Saturday. Strong winds of 14-18 knots out of the southwest quickly built and gusts of 27 knots forced racing to be called for the day. Only 6 of 16 races were run on Saturday.
Sunday brought calmer winds between 8-10 knots out of the Northeast and slightly colder 50 degree weather with partly cloudy skies. All races were windward-leeward twice around courses. No protests were filed although some breakdowns and redresses were heard by the judges. Prizes were awarded to the top three teams overall, and to first and second in both A and B divions.

The legend, Bradley Churchill, always the giver, supplied visiting teams with pineapples and raw asparagus this unusually sunny weekend on the Charles River. Saturday was a blustery W/NW ranging from 5-25mph with many capsizes, 2 broken goosenecks, and 1 broken bow chain plate. Sunday was a W/SW ranging from 5-15mph and much fewer capsizes. RC ran 10 races including W3, W4 and W5's with an offset and gate. One redress was filed and granted.

April 17-18, 2010
Boat: 420
Saturday conditions for coed qualifiers at ND were very windy. Wind was out of the northwest at around 15 mph with puffs reaching into the mid 20's. 6 races were completed in each division. Racing was cancelled in the afternoon when puffs were consistently approaching 30 mph.
On Sunday wind was very shifty out of the northwest at 0-8 mph. Six races were completed in each division, just shy of a full rotation. There were 2 protests filed, resulting in the disqualification of St. Thomas in Race 5A and Michigan in Race 9B. There were 5 requests for redress and all were granted. Congratulations to Wisconsin, Minnesota, Northwestern, St. Thomas, and Notre Dame for qualifying for Semi-Finals.
A special thanks to Eagle Lake Yacht Club for allowing us to use their facility and to the judges and race committee for helping to make this regatta a success. Winning Team

Saturday: Despite a grim forecast the rain held out in the morning and we were able to get 10 races off. Winds were around 8mph and slowly clocked left throughout the day. The race committee worked very hard constantly resetting marks to keep the course square. Racing was abandoned at 3:30pm due to lightning followed by heavy rain.
Sunday: Despite some light rain the last 4 races were sailed completing the round robin. Winds again were around 8mph. One protest was filed but was thrown out after review by the judges. A special thanks to the CLSA for letting us use their facilities, our R/C Don Johnson and Shane Montgomery, and our Judges Dennis Bartley, Mike Kaspar, Andrew Kiener, and George Griswold. Congratulations to Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota who are headed to Nationals this spring.

Saturday: 18 teams converged on the US Merchant Marine Academy for the Admirals Cup regatta. After a delay until 2:45 due to lack of wind, 9 races were run in each of the 3 divisions in an increasing sea breeze. Shifty conditions and current flowing up the course made for a tricky day on the water with numerous OCS boats. 1 breakdown request was heard and granted to Dartmouth.
Sunday started with pouring rain and light wind. The breeze was shifty and ranged from 2 knots to 8 knots throughout the day. Two races were called back due to big shifts on the first beat. 9 Races were run in each division to finish the rotation. All races on both days were run on a trapezoid course. A big thanks goes out to Sue Miller for standing by as chief judge.

2010 Intrepid Trophy
1US Naval Academy
April 24-25, 2010
The 2010 Intrepid Trophy began with a talented field, great race committee and outstanding umpires all with nothing to do as the wind forgot to show up for the morning. The fleet left the dock to drift for a while before coming in for an early lunch break. The wind began to fill at around 1230 and the competitors headed back out to the course to begin racing. PRO Taran Teague and her Race Committee from NASS made the most of the shifty conditions, getting off five flights over the course of the afternoon. The fleet was split into two groups of six teams for the beginning of the round and the five flights allowed for complete round robins among those groups.
On Sunday morning, a lack of wind forced a postponement ashore and eliminated the possibility of completing the 12 team round robin. The alternate format that was agreed upon by the Umpires, Race Committee and OA was for the top four teams in each round robin to sail a championship knockout round, with consolation knockouts for the other four teams and the teams eliminated in the first round of the championship bracket. A light northeasterly breeze eventually settled in and the alternate format was completed just in time for the 1400 cutoff. In the end, Navy beat out Hobart and William Smith Colleges 2 to 1 in the Finals to claim the victory in the 2010 Intrepid Trophy. Congratulations to Navy sailors Jason Carminati '12, James Allsopp '11, Tim Murphy '10, and Bobby Nordlund '12.
The umpires held a very informative debrief at the end of racing both days and all in attendance were able to gain significant insights. The umpire team consisted of Chief Umpire Sandy Grosvenor, Jeff Borland, Chris Petracco, Dobbs Davis, Ric Crabbe, Dan Trammel, Hugh Elliot, Dave Clinnin, Tim Borland, and Herb Larrabee. A complete Won / Loss grid, Knockout Bracket results and RP Information are attached.

Keelboat Scrimmage

April 17-18, 2010
Another phenomenal day of sailing on the Severn River off the Naval Academy!
The high pressure gradient dished up another shifty, puffy northwesterly providing an tactically excellent playing field for the 13 teams contesting.
The crew from Hobart posted two more top 3 finishes with only a 7th in Race 9 to blemish their consistent scoreline to win the regatta. Cornell scored two 4ths but came back to win the last race and beat out Navy Team B on the tie breaker for second. Coast Guard had a strong day despite taking a penalty in race 9 to move up to 4th overall.
A huge thanks to volunteers Frieda Wildey and Dick Morin for their efforts as weather mark boat and to the Midshipmen who gave up their weekend to help make it all happen.
