Cedarfest Regatta
Michigan State University
October 6-7, 2007
Conditions were slow this weekend in terms of wind, which allowed for only two sets of racing to be scored. Saturday started off with light breeze and a total of 10 races were sailed until rain came in the afternoon taking all the wind with it. On Sunday no wind had developed by the scheduled start of the first race. The regatta operated under postponement until it was called at 12:00. The last two races were scratched as the B division was not able complete the set. Off the water a great time was had by all playing ultimate frisbee during postponement and getting together for dinner on Saturday night. Thanks to all of the teams that attended.

Saturday: The day started with breeze from the South at 12-14 knots. This breeze and the moderate swell allowed for some great Windward/Leeward twice around courses. With the threat of scattered thunder storms, the Race Committee called a delay of game between races to let one meekly pass to the North leaving behind a light breeze from the NW which allowed us to finish out the set and call it a day.
Sunday: Day two started off with a light 5-7 knot breeze hailing from the North. Around 2:30, a shifty North to Northwest to West breeze challenged the completion of sailing Windward/Leeward twice around courses and Windward/Leeward finish upwind courses until 3:00 when the Lake glassed over and was called a regatta. Boats: 420

Saturday: Another Boatshow weekend in Annapolis! The day started slow with a delay onshore until 11:30 am when the breeze filled in. We were all treated with a 5-10 kt SE-SW Breeze. 10 Races were sailed in each division on a trapezoid Course. 3 Protests were filled resulting in DSQ's. Nice Job by PRO Ali Sharp and the Midshipman for running races!
Sunday: We started the day with a light NW Breeze and got in one race in each division. We then waited on shore for a seabreeze to fill but it never filled enough for quality racing. The regatta was called at 2:30pm. Boats: 420/FJ/Radial (3 div)

MCSA Singlehanded Championships
Michigan State University
October 13-14, 2007
After waiting through the week before, the weather finally cleared up allowing a great weekend of racing on Lake Michigan. Saturday seven races were sailed in 10-15 knot westerly breezes with 1-2 foot waves. Sunday the conditions calmed down to 5-10 out of the east. Throughout the racing was very close and provided a very competitive regatta. Congratulations to Ryan Lashaway, Tod Reynolds, Kevin Campbell, Lauren Knoles, and Christine Porter for moving on to the ICSA Singlehanded Championships to be sailed in Seattle.

Saturday: The racing was sailed in the N cove and completed 12 races in each division. In the morning the winds were blowing from the NW 8-12 knots. The dinghies were on one course sailing gold cups and the lasers/radials on another course sailing windward-leewards, twice around with a gate. The wind shifted to the west mid-day, at this time all fleets sailed on one trapezoid course. The wind velocity varied greatly each race and sometimes on a single leg from 4-14 knots.
Sunday: A full rotation of 20 races in each Division was finished. The final 8 races in the 4 Divisions were sailed in the Severn River; all fleets sailed on one trapezoid course. The wind was very shifty from the NW 5-12 knots. Boats: 420/FJ/Laser/Radial (4 Div)

One-Design Sailing Symposium Offers a
Weekend of Sail Fast Workshops
Columbus, Ohio - November 17-18, 2007
When the US SAILING One-Design Sailing Symposium (ODSS) kicks off on Friday evening, November 16, in Columbus, Ohio, sailors better be geared up for a fast-paced, information- packed weekend of fun. Presenters include Dave Perry, multiple one-design champion Greg Fisher, and sailing author Stuart Walker. You can look forward to several special events, including a US SAILING Mount Gay Rum Speaker Series on Saturday-night (November 17) featuring Dave Perry who will talk about winning moves in one-design sailing.
The ODSS covers a wide range of topics with the go fast track geared to the intermediate racer who is looking to crank it up a notch. Dave Perry will present “Winning Moves in One Design” on Saturday night and sportsmanship on Sunday. Other topics include: reading the wind, rules, starting techniques, up wind lane management, mark rounding, and boat handling skills. Greg Fisher, Skip Dieball, Tom Hubbell and others will present on these topics.
The collegiate sailor special registration is $50 for Saturday and $25 for Sunday. Registration includes Friday and Saturday night events, lunches, notebook and lots of giveaways. Please contact Lee Parks for registration information, 401-683-0800 x650 or
