September 8-9, 2007
Races started Saturday afternoon, following lunch and a 3 hour postponement. The first race began in full sun and a 3-5 mph north wind. Unfortunately, the wind died to 0-3 mph at during the first B race, and racing was called for the day. The temperature was a warm 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit. Two A division races were sailed. The courses were windward/leewards.
On Sunday the breeze was 8-14 mph from North. Three races were sailed in A division, and three races were sailed in B-division. The courses were windward/leewards. Two protests were filed, and one DSQ was given.
Thank you to our Judges, Fields C Gunsett and George Griswold. Also thanks to our Race Committee, Aaron, Vandy, Scotty, Andy and Anna.

Saturday's races started around noon with 5-8mph wind from the southeast. Temperatures were around the high 70s and cloudy. Races were windward leeward once or twice around. The wind dropped too low to race at 1:30. Only three races could be sailed on Saturday. Sunday brought in some fresh breeze with 7-10mph wind from the northwest. Seven more races were sailed.
Thank you to the head of our race committee, Carlos, for helping us out this weekend.

Saturday morning saw SSW breeze 10-14knots. Three races were sailed using course 4 and 6 with a weather offset mark. It was pretty shifty at the weather mark and all races got spread out quickly.
In the afternoon, the breeze shifted more to the South and seven more races were sailed to complete the regatta in great breeze. Brown dominated the regatta winning by 15 points. There was one DSQ and no breakdowns. Thanks to judges George Crocker and Pat Dillon. Boats: Colgate 26 (crew of 4)

Only one rotation was sailed on the second day in light and variable winds ranging from 0 to 10 knots. No protests were filed and there was no redress requested. Morning started off cold and there were several ominous clouds on the horizon, however they quickly dissipated and the sailors enjoyed another great day of sailing. Miami University would like to thank all of the teams who came out. Collaboratively written by: Ryan Zupon and Andy Hoffman

MCSA Sloop Championship
Detroit Yacht Club
September 22-23, 2007
Saturday: The wind 9-12 Kts under a sunny sky with the temperature climbing to 80 degrees. The PRO Ed Theisen ordered up four lap mid-leg start windward-leeward courses as the wind was almost directly across the Detroit River. Later in the day the courses were reduced to three laps so that a total of 8 races could be completed. The racing was very tight in the Detroit Yacht Clubs Flying Scots and at the end of the 6th race the top five teams were only separated by two points. At the end of the day two protests and one redress were heard, Miami had a safe lead with four teams duking it out for second place.
Sunday: There was no wind at 9:30 so a postponement ashore was signaled. The wind came in from the north shortly after 10 and the first race was started around 11. Since the wind was coming down the river longer legs were used and the mid-leg start windward-leeward course was reduced to 2 laps for the first two races. In order to complete the rotation the last two races were reduced to only one lap causing some exciting mark roundings. Miami held on to a safe lead while four other teams traded places. However, Miami took an 8 and a 9 in the last two races, trying to give its lead away. The Red Hawks managed to hold on for the win by two points. Notre Dame issued a protest against Northwestern in race 11 when it noticed that one of its crew was not wearing a pinnie. The Jury of George Griswold, Ed Theisen, and Robert DeClerc? ruled that under the Procedural Rules that the teams did not have to wear pinnies for a Conference Championship, and dismissed the Protest allowing the on the water results to stand.
Congratulations to Miami and Northwestern for qualifying for the ICSA Sloop Championship in Texas.

Shields Trophy
U.S. Naval Academy
September 15-16, 2007
Saturday: A cold front passed through Annapolis at dawn today and was followed by shifty and breezy northwesterly blasting down the Severn with plenty of sunshine.
The Race Committee ran 4 races aboard USNA's fleet of Navy 44 sloops.
Coast Guard ended up with the day in top winning the tie break with Cal Maritime with each at 10 points. SUNY Maritime is 5 points back in 3rd.
Sunday: It was an awesome day 2 for intercollegiate big boat sailors aboard the Navy 44 sloops in Annapolis. The 9 teams assembled for the Shields Trophy Regatta were treated to 8-16 knots of oscillating northeasterly breeze and crystal clear sunny skies.
3 windward/leeward races were completed. When the dust settled, the consistent performance by California Maritime was rewarded with a well deserved victory.
Coast Guard finished strong winning the last 2 races but couldn't overcome a 6th in the first race of the day. SUNY also displayed solid consistency finishing up in 3rd.
