Eastern Semi-Final Championship Regatta
College of Charleston
May 1-2, 2010
Boat: 420
Saturday: It was an excellent day for racing on the Cooper River with good breeze, air temps around 80 and sunny skies. We sailed 10 A races and 8 B races. The wind was shifting between the south and the southwest throughout the day. The wind velocity started out around 8 knots and built through out the day, maxing out at around 15-18 knots. We had a strong ebb tide (upwind current) for most of the day, but minimized general recalls by utilizing a pin boat and the 1-minute rule. All courses were windward leewards (4 or 5 legs), with offsets and gates.
Sunday: It was another great day for racing on the Cooper River, with conditions almost identical to yesterday. 7B and 5A races were completed on windward-leeward courses (3, 4 and 5 legs) with offsets and gates.
Thanks to our judges, Bob Bowden, Sarah Ashton, Noel Shriner and Maria Petrillo; the ICSA representative, David Dabney; Cathy Swanson for driving our photo/video boat; Sailgroove for providing video coverage; and PRO Ward Cromwell and the Charleston team for running great races.

Western Semi-final Championship Regatta

May 1-2, 2010
Boat: FJ
Saturday started with a postponement on shore as a light southerly switched to the north. A-fleet started racing shortly after noon in a steady 8 knots. Winds began to die at the start of race 2A and remained light for the remainder of the afternoon. 2 race were finished in A and B-fleet. Sailors and coaches were treated to a delicious dinner by Stephanie of Course Catering.
Sunday: Races got underway at 9:30 in a steady southerly. Wind speeds stayed between 6-10knots all day. Shifts came from both sides of the course and kept races close all day. The battle for 9th place, and the last berth to the finals, lasted until the last B fleet race with only 5 points between Stanford, U Miami and Eckerd. Courses were W4's and W5's with a windward finish right at the dock. 8A and 8B races were sailed for a total of 10 in each division.
A huge thanks to PRO Jay Renehan and all the members of race committee that braved the cool temps and occasional showers. Thanks as well to our Judges Charlie Macaulay, Brian Watkins, Norm Smit and Jared Hickman, our ICSA Rep Danielle Richards and Event Chair Molly Jackson.

MCSA Team Racing Championship
Wisconsin
May 8, 2010
Saturday May 8 After a late start, the first round robin commenced. With temperatures in the low 40's and winds from the northwest 18-23 knots, the conditions were not the pleasant May weather some expected. The umpires, race committee, sailors and volunteers bravely faced the cold weather throughout the day, including the two painful hail storms. Racing finished at 6:00 with 36 races and two round robins completed. 1 breakdown was awarded and three protests were filed.
Sunday May 9 Due to a glassy Lake Mendota, racing was postponed at 9am. No races were sailed and the regatta was called at 12pm.
Thank you very much umpires Betsy Altmann, Mike Kasper, Hans Graf, Matt Younkel, and Wisco team alumni. Also thank you to race committee Mr. and Mrs. Porter and Mr. Bargren. Thank you to Mr. Kutsch and Mr. Garber for bringing motorboats.
Congratulations Wisconsin and Northwestern.

Gopher Invite
University of Minnesota
May 15-16, 2010
We were pleased to see a lot of sun and warm weather for the weekend, though these great conditions brought little wind. Saturday started with glassy water so sailors were postponed on shore until the race committee saw a steady breeze of 3.5 knots or higher. A division eventually got in a total of 3 races with B's getting two in on Saturday.
Sunday began with promising breeze which eventually began throwing 45 degree shifts for the race committee to compensate for. Despite the difficult wind conditions, each division completed 6 races with a total of 12 races being sailed for the regatta.
We would like to thank all of our volunteers- Carl Locker, Robbie Virnil, Andrea Porter, Mark Dunsworth, Mike Schmidt, Mark Swift, Megan Zweber, Tricia Towen, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson and all of the Gopher sailors.
As the Techscore website was unresponsive all day we used Excel to score and have attached the spreadsheet.
We are sad to see our seniors go!
